Step 01

Home

Browse factions and resume a saved list or battle.

How to use it

1. Open Continue where you left off when you have a recent list or game on this device.
2. Use Start here to read the Codex Archive, build or import a list in Order of Battle, play in Theatre of War, or review the Change Record.
3. Preview a faction skin with the selector, or choose Grimdark to return to the default; previews are not saved.

Good to know

• Use Site Index at the top of each page to move between sections. Log in or Account is at the top right here.

Step 02

How to use

Find instructions for the main sections and their related pages.

How to use it

1. Search by page, task or tool.
2. Choose a section in Contents to jump to it.
3. Use Open at the end of a section to visit that page.

Step 03

Install the app

Add Tactical 40k to your Home Screen and prepare for play without a signal.

How to use it

1. On Android, open tactical40k.com in Chrome and choose Install app or Add to Home screen from the browser menu.
2. On iPhone or iPad, open the site in Safari, then choose Share → Add to Home Screen.
3. Open the pages you need while connected so they can be available offline; keep a battle JSON backup before changing devices or clearing browser data.

Good to know

• Account sync, shared games and online AI need a connection. Available local tools and saved device data remain separate from account-backed records; app updates wait until an active battle is finished.

Step 04

Factions · Codex Archive

Find faction rules, detachments, stratagems and datasheets in the codex archive.

How to use it

1. Search factions, keywords, stratagems or datasheets, or narrow results by allegiance, visual theme and unit type.
2. Open a faction, then choose a detachment to show its rule, Enhancements and Stratagems together; army-wide Stratagems remain available.
3. Search datasheets and browse Epic Heroes, Characters, Battleline, Dedicated Transports and Other; open a unit for its profiles, weapons and abilities.
4. Check Stratagem timing, follow linked glossary terms and use Read current rule from a change entry to jump to the matching rule. Follow the official pack link to check the source PDF.
5. Space Marine chapters only show their own locked heroes, so chapter rosters stay legal.
6. Build or edit an army from a faction page, or open Build an army from Site Index.

Good to know

• Enhancements belong to the selected detachment, not a combined pool. Any unverified cost is labelled Points unverified; confirm it before using the list competitively.

Step 05

11th edition rulebook

Read the core rules, phase sequence and quick-reference tables.

How to use it

1. Search for a rule or open a section of the rulebook.
2. Use the phase walkthrough and tables for an at-the-table reference; check the official rulebook link for exact wording.
3. During a battle, use the current phase rules button for a read-only phase reference; closing it returns to the game without advancing the phase.
4. Use the separate Rulebook tool for full-text search without leaving the battle, or open a rule section for its dedicated reference page.

Rules search

Search core and faction rules in one place.

How to use it

1. Search rule titles, text or references.
2. Switch between Core rules and Faction rules, then narrow faction results by kind or faction.
3. Use the 11th edition filter and citation beneath a result to trace the source.

Step 07

Glossary

Look up game terms linked from the rules and codices.

How to use it

1. Search a term by name or definition.
2. Filter by category when you need a particular kind of term.

Step 08

Compare factions

Compare two factions' rules, rosters and points side by side.

How to use it

1. Select a faction for each side.
2. Switch between the quick and detailed comparisons as needed.
3. Copy the page link to share the comparison.

Step 09

Rules changes

Review changes from edition and pack updates.

How to use it

1. Search or filter by faction, change type, or the Imperium, Chaos and Xenos groups.
2. Use the Updated since last visit filter to see which faction packs changed since you were last here.
3. Read the pack version and effective date, then open the affected codex.

Good to know

• A coverage note identifies factions with no published pack yet.

Step 10

Build an army · Order of Battle

Muster a faction list at a points limit, with live legality checks.

How to use it

1. Choose a faction, detachment and 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 or 3000 point limit; Enhancement and copy limits scale with the battle size.
2. Add units from the role-grouped datasheet catalogue, duplicate an entry to add another copy, or use Select recommendation to draft a starting roster.
3. Attach Character leaders to their bodyguard units and pick Enhancements; an unverified cost can be overridden manually rather than guessed.
4. Review the rolling points total and live legality results in the sticky summary.
5. Save a list, export a PDF or WTC-style text copy with a points breakdown, import a BattleScribe .rosz roster, or create a share link.
6. Send the roster to the chosen player in a new battle; the other army is left unchanged. An in-progress game cannot be replaced by a roster transfer.

Good to know

• You can add units before choosing a Warlord while drafting; resolve the remaining legality warnings before play. Destructive changes ask for confirmation, and Undo restores a removed unit's settings.

Step 11

Saved lists

Reopen, inspect, export and manage the armies you've built.

How to use it

1. Search and sort saved lists; open one to inspect its units and points, edit it or export its PDF or text.
2. Use the tabs across the Orders of Battle section to switch between Builder, Saved lists, Official tracker and Favourites.
3. In Official tracker, compare a list against published points; in Favourites, organise factions into collections.

• Sign in to keep account-backed lists across devices.

Step 12

Live Battle Game · Theatre of War

Set up, play and score a five-round battle from one three-tab tracker.

How to use it

1. Muster & Setup: choose the battle size and each player's faction, detachment and Force Disposition; load a saved list, paste a roster, or upload TXT, JSON, PDF or BattleScribe .ros/.rosz.
2. Complete the pre-battle steps, then select Start the game. Saved games in progress open on Active Battle.
3. Active Battle: follow Command → Movement → Shooting → Charge → Fight → End of turn with Next phase; the timeline shows the active player and phase. Resolve the Command checklist before Movement.
4. Use the unit tracker for losses, starting models or wounds, OC overrides, objective markers and Battle-shock. Use Active objectives to score Fixed cards or draw, score, keep and discard Tactical cards without switching tabs.
5. Scoring & Map: choose each player's Fixed or Tactical secondaries, mission rule and deployment; inspect primary scoring, the terrain board and the Campaign Ledger. Place units and objectives on the 60×44 map — objective control, sight lines and cover are read from the map and feed scoring and attack tools automatically.
6. Always-on army and detachment rules apply themselves to attack rolls; supported map secondaries such as Engage on All Fronts score from board control once per turn.
7. After the second player's last turn in round five, confirm each army's Battle-Ready bonus in Battle concluded, finalise the result, copy the report and save it to standings.
8. Use the bottom bar for Dice, Rules, AI Tactica and Stay awake: the phase rules button shows the current phase read-only, while Rulebook searches every rule; neither changes match progress. More tools reveals the calculator, tournament, calendar, offline sync and emergency referee score override.
9. Use Battle file to export a PDF, back up or import a session as JSON, copy a share link, restore an autosave or start a new battle.

Good to know

• New to the tracker? The Quick-Start Demo on the battle page walks through a full sample turn with coach tips, and can be replayed from its completion card.
• BattleScribe imports run on your device; single-model units with a Wounds value are tracked by wounds for Half-strength tests.
• You can set up mission cards on Events and carry those picks into your next battle.
• The battle calculator is available under More tools; the separate Dice simulator and Tier record are linked from the Theatre of War section tabs on related pages.

Step 13

Events · Mission deck & standings

Pick missions before battle and review live results, event standings and replays.

How to use it

1. Open the Mission deck viewer to choose each player's Disposition, mission rule, deployment and secondary cards, then use these picks in a new battle.
2. Check Live Standings for recently finished shared battles, VP, wins and placement; open a replay to inspect the rounds and copy the report.
3. Browse events by date, expand an event for per-player Dispositions, paired missions, round scores and event notes or photos.
4. Use Run an event to open the battle page, then More tools → Tournament to manage players and pairings.

Good to know

• The example post-game report is illustrative and does not count toward standings.

Step 14

Tournament planner

Manage event fixtures and results from this device, even without a connection.

How to use it

1. Select or create an event and generate the next round's pairings.
2. Enter VP as games finish and read standings and mission detail.
3. Use the offline backup to carry an event to another device.

Step 15

Account

Sign in and manage your account details and saved data.

How to use it

1. Sign in to save account-backed lists and records across devices.
2. Update your email or password, or use the reset link if needed.
3. Sign out to return to guest mode, or use Purge record to delete the account after confirmation.
